Equality...

I am sure that you are familiar with the age old saying that all men are equal.

Ever stopped to question it? Ever wondered if the only explanation that justifies this bold statement assessing the nature of mankind is in the fact… ‘…but everyone knows…’?

I just cannot agree to this sentence. The statement implies that men are all essentially the same.

To me this seems entirely like the fabrication of some sappy fool or loser from ages ago who decided in a moment of madness that the ones who toil are no better than the ones who laze and reap their harvest. And this concept is what society is built on.

Society is in itself a creation of man. Society is man’s answer to satisfy his moral need of protecting the ones weaker than he is.

The very foundation or building block of society is equality. Equality is a lie when considered in real life. Equality is a myth, if we were to ponder it without being limited by all the ‘values’ that society has raised us to consider almost as a second nature.

No man is born equal.

Some are strong and some are weak. Some are talented some are not. Some work hard and some don’t. Some are endowed with a passion for their work while some whine and merely seek an outlet to complain against the society that protects the interests of useless creatures like themselves.

We cannot even think that we are all gifted with a different talent each. We cannot think that if we were to equate them somehow, we would all magically be rendered the same.

It is just a fact that some men are superior to others.

We all have at times been frustrated when undeserving people have been accorded the same status as us. There can be no justification to how a worker and an idler are clubbed together. No justification except the stern voice of fake morality of our society saying… “All men are equal”.

Society is not supposed to be a method of bringing down the ones with talents to the level of the ones without. Society is meant to raise the standard of the entire population as a whole. It is unfortunate that in most cases this hardly ever happens.

How can we be expected to progress if we so blatantly inhibit the free thinking of the individuals to better trap them amidst a thong of voiceless and mindless babblers.

How can we condemn ambition, when that is the very spirit that has brought us so far from being animals? Why do we persist in forcing our peers into the box and prevent them from achieving their potential?

Because, we cannot think that we are not all the same. We love our excuse of failing where others have failed too. We cannot face the fact that their may be someone just better than we are, that we may just not be as good as them.

That is what society gives. It gives mental security for the vast and worthless majority, incapable of forging their own path in life.

The situation is so grave now that we are afraid to acknowledge even the ones who have broken free of this chain and progressed beyond their contemporaries. Our first instinct is to be suspicious of them and slander them. We find it vulgar that someone has escaped the norms that we ourselves are still bound by.

It is even worse in our own country. Filled to the cusp with an untamable population, we find ourselves thoughtlessly tossing everyone in together… not stopping to think that maybe one among them is special. In the stifling crowds of our classes or offices it becomes virtually impossible to let our minds grow. Very rarely, does someone step beyond the rest. The others, even though they may have had the same potential, are all lost to the unknown.

And at the end of the day we still question, why we cannot reciprocate the feats, be it in any field whatsoever, of our distant counterparts with so much less strength of numbers.

The answer lies within us. The blame lies in our still existing belief that we are all the same...
