Moments...

That moment when you are staring out the window… your eyes wide open… unblinking. That moment when you see everything and nothing… at the same time. That moment when you are lost… but also right there.

This… is followed by the rude awakening to the immediate surroundings. An instance of fleeting embarrassment as you catch yourself enjoying an impossible fancy. Another to smile inwardly at your inner child… consoling… placating. One more to shrug off the temporary trance world that had claimed your thoughts. And then… it’s back to reality.

Panic...

Cold sweat, nausea… and a feeling of impending doom… check! The years have flown past to leave mere months… days, hours… and now minutes. Any moment now the doors will open and your time will be up.

Look back… and all you’ll see are wasted time… wasted effort and wasted breath. Try looking ahead… and you behold… nothing.

Inadequacy...

Rejection, betrayal, anxiety, pain, loss and fear… all of them are emotions that are hard to stomach. They are all quite hard to come to terms with before the inevitable moving on. But I feel, that somehow the difficulties they present or the trauma they cause… pale when compared to the pangs of inadequacy.

Rejection for instance, is a dreadful experience… especially for the one being rejected. There is something crushing about the feeling of putting oneself out there… making oneself vulnerable and getting shot down brutally for our efforts. It shatters people, robs them of their will to get out of bed in the mornings and face a new day. For a while it saps their spirit, and drains all the zest from their lives.

Choices...

“In the beginning, there never is much to worry about.” The professor’s calm, confidant voice cut through the attentive silence of the class.

“Quite literally, a world of opportunities awaits you. And considering the law of averages… all you need to do for success, is be a part of the vast majority. In the beginning, it’s significantly more difficult to fail… than be successful.”

Introductory lectures were never meant to be interesting. They were merely a way for students to gauge their new professors. If they were judged to be dull… or monotonous in their teaching styles, their class’s attendance took a beating. But this time… things weren’t proceeding how they were supposed to.

Family...

Through the red veil of rage, the man spotted the child.

Barely over twelve years in age… she lay helpless and forlorn on the narrow bed. His daughter… testimony to the family he had once had.

All the pains and humiliations of the day came rushing back. The jeers of an unsympathetic world at the failures of a lonely man… hell bent on destroying someone who sought nothing more than a life… for himself and his little girl.

Deathbed...

Keep your wishes,
And empty sighs,
What use are they
Your foolish lies

To a man who rests,
In his final days
Smiling at death
With solemn gaze

Haikus on Love...

Fleeting yet magnificent,
You consume and destroy,
We flock to feel your flame.

Fragrance...

Soft, sweet and tender breeze
It makes my head spin… out of control
Coz this breeze brings, in gentle waves,
Your fragrance sweet… and stirs my soul.

It makes me weak, it makes me stop and
Makes me wonder who I am…
I dog your steps and trail your path
But in the end, it’s all a sham.

Unattainable...

It’s been a long day… but I am not tired. I am exhilarated.

Things were going downhill from as soon as I opened my eyes... but before then things had been perfect. I had been dreaming of her… again.

The subtle colors on her quivering lashes… and through them the magic glimmer of her sparkling eyes… the image had lulled me to sleep and caressed me awake. It was a beautiful night.

Tonight...

Tonight confusion returns to me.

In great crashing waves that stifle and choke
With the briefest respite amid their onslaught
For me to wonder what is wrong.

Being calm and sure… my biggest traits
I don’t know where they have gone
All was well… but in one fine moment,
My composure slipped away
And unvoiced fears take hold of me

Speech Tips...

We all have, at some point of time, sat engrossed in a crowd… listening to the words of the man on stage. And we all have applauded when he finished and agreed unanimously, that he was awesome. Most of us differ from how we reacted after this. Some went home content, some found themselves taken with the speaker’s charms… and the rest of us wondered how we ourselves could reach his level of excellence.

And the good news is, it isn’t impossible… it can be done and quite easily too. By following a few simple pointers and undergoing a little bit of grooming, we can all overcome our stage frights and be more than confident regarding speaking at any occasion whatsoever.

Misunderstandings...

Ever wondered what separates us from animals… apart from the fact that we can curb our instincts? (To be fair… only a few of us actually ever do that.) I personally feel, that in addition to having superior brain functions such as selfishness, and knowing what’s best for us… another answer to that question would be… our ability to communicate with each other effectively… instead of having to sniff each other’s asses to know who’s in season. The gift of language… that played a definite part in our becoming the dominant species of the planet is however not without a few flaws.

Moods...

No… I am most certainly not talking about the contraceptive brand here (sorry to disappoint those that only started reading this hoping that I was… incidentally they are the same folk who seem to have already stopped.) It’s just the psychological “mood” that I want to blog about today (and I think I just lost some more readers.) In addition to hearing my views about said “mood” and more importantly how it swings… hopefully, we’ll also be able to make some headway in understanding the incomprehensible psyches of males and females alike. (What do you know? The readers are back!)
