People (3)...

Before we were introduced to the finer pleasures of life… the word ‘Teachers’ inspired only one sentiment in those who heard it… loathing. The group of people entrusted with the job of getting us to absorb values and knowledge could safely be written out of the list of people we wanted to be around. And now… even after ‘Teachers’ helps us get high in style… any mention of that revolting bunch takes the fun out of the most enjoyable of moments.

Weakness...

It doesn’t matter if you can lift a couple of hundred pounds without effort. It doesn’t matter if you can hold your own in a fight against a host of attackers. Heck… it doesn’t even matter if you can withstand all consuming pain and agony without a single grimace. At the end of the day… when your pressure point is reached… you are as weak as a three legged puppy trapped in front of rearing wolves.

Critics...

Speaking as an aspiring author… I have always been fascinated by the existence of a strange species in creative circles. What’s even more curious than this breed itself… is how the dominant group in their vicinity tolerates their existence! These strange types of creature are collectively known as “The Critics”.

From my point of view, everyone involved in any field that requires innovation, would be spared a lot of annoyance and irritation if the critters were just stamped out. It’s simple and elegant as far as solutions go… right?

Oh… I am sure I meant to type ‘critics’ there.

Scavengers...

A single blemish in the splendid night,
In the golden circle, a lonely blight,
Age lay withered upon the stones,
Under the lamp and it’s flickering light.
He wheezed, he coughed in moving tones
His form composed of fragile bones.
At the doors of death, a pitiful sight.

Reflections...

I wander back to those old wounds,
Though years have drifted by,
I visit the graves of past follies
And here the echoes of my sigh.

Sunlit fields and sparkling dew,
That I spurned so long ago,
Haunt my listless thoughts today
And infect the scabs of my woe

Power Cut...

No sound… no noise… just the sudden deprivation of all your senses as if you are being smothered by a pillow in your sleep. Going blind and deaf in a heartbeat… and being trapped in a world exclusive to you… alone.

The power cut takes you by surprise and the inky blackness submerges your surroundings. The light, airy study where you were working a moment before… rapidly turns into a dull unexplored crypt whose gloom your eyes fail to penetrate.

People (2)...

You know what we all have, at least for a while as we grow up? Relatives. They are the universal commonality that binds all men and women together as they unite the world with their mutual distaste of that group of unyielding weeds in the garden of their lives.

I know… I have the heart of a poet… too bad that it’s coupled with the cynicism of Diogenes with a telescope and a searchlight.

People (1)...

We have all, at one point or another, observed the people who surround us and formed our own opinions about the majority of them. I have tried categorizing my neighbors in an attempt to better understand and predict when they are likely to blow up… that tends to be a very distinct possibility for folks who have dealings with me. If you haven’t tried it too, then either of us is weird that way.

On the whole, I like people. It’s when they become individuals… that they start causing problems. Oh for a world when men and women alternated between existence and absence depending on how annoying they are and when you actually want to see them… sigh!

Cricket Craze...

Lightning tore across the cloudy sky while thunder rolled… it probably rolled a six.

Down below, in the little village of Chota Manas, now resembling a watery swamp after the incessant rain, the last remaining villagers gathered in the upper story of Chandak’s house.

Having the keen intelligence unique to mankind, they were not wasting their time. The trapped men and women were discussing their current predicament. Things were looking very bleak indeed.

“I tell you they always shut down the station when there’s a storm over Mumbai!” Little Radha wailed. “The signal will be back in no time. Trust me.”

Vacation Blues...

On the plus side… all you need to do is stay snug in your warm bed all day long.

The down side is… there’s nothing you can do save stay stuck in your bed all day long.

On the whole, I’d personally much rather have the option of being up and about if the fancy for exploration took me… or even sheer frustrating boredom, for that matter. So, it’s really quite a shame to be under the weather from the day you get to the destination of your mini vacation.

Premonitions...

Oh, Flashes of future,
Impossibly disjoint,
If we don’t get you,
Then what is the point?

From your glimpses,
Of chances untold,
How would I know
What tomorrow will hold?
