Shadows flicker above, over my head
Light and dark, in their eternal chase
My tired eyes follow them in the silent gloom
As their quiet dance, my thoughts erase…
Fleeing to the corners, as the curtains billow,
Returning again as the breeze subsides,
Tireless and repetitive the rhythm unfolds
Light and shade, from each other hides
The rays of the halogen that filter through
Meets the gloom that abides within,
They mingle and merge on every surface,
The ceiling, the floor… and my clammy skin
One might almost feel that this little display,
Can be construed as a reflection of life
Of that constant battle that consumes us,
Our inner darkness battling the surrounding light
Our own flames we use to guide our peers…
On us its purpose is always lost
The race of hypocrites that we truly are,
We are forever surrounded by our mind’s frost
In the edge of that frigid battlefield,
Where instincts and logic struggle for power
This identical game of shadows and light
Repeats itself, till one can make the other cower
It seems to me that this constant battle,
Is predetermined, to never end
Light and dark balance each other,
And eventually into a single entity, do blend
When it’s all over we are left drained,
Doomed to make our choices alone
The faded miasma of the right and wrong,
Offer us as much help as a stone
The final decision rests with us,
What path we choose to go down by,
To light the bulb and banish the shades,
Or shut the drapes and the light defy.
This fascinating game, gracing my walls
Seems to me to be telling a tale,
The story of how eventually every man must
Observe the war, raging beneath his veil
The shadows loom above, over my head
Light and dark, in their eternal chase
My tired eyes follow them in the silent gloom
I feel myself drowning within their embrace.
The first piece of poetry in I don't know how long... :)
