Serenity...

He craved serenity, his elusive mistress,
He desired her soft slow touch,
And through hard days,
And night’s thick haze,
He hounded her among, the world’s wide maze,
To hold her tight and never let go,
And keep her forever in his clutch.

Like Odysseus’ quest, as he homeward sailed
Even Atlas’ eternal toil,
Fought mortal men,
With the strength of ten,
As they sought escape from their restless den,
To have for a moment a vestige of peace
Till it was time to return to soil

Sweet seducer of mankind’s fancy,
She flirted with the whole world’s lust
Man and child,
On her whim smiled,
To reach and hold her, their peers beguiled,
To feel the joy of a second’s glee,
Stood eager, ready to bite the dust

Such was and still is, her raw passion,
That makes us all go weak,
She smothers us all,
The great and small,
For her promises, we always fall,
Her false sweet laughter that foretells rain,
Fades while the world stays bleak

Is she real or a specter false?
A phantasm of mankind’s dream,
Peace from strife,
And blade of knife
Freedom from guns, and harmony rife
The hope of all who have lived and died…
Was it all for a paltry scheme?

And though we’ve fallen for the same old trick,
Time and time again,
It never fails,
We raise our sails
To seek our Eden, we walk on nails
Suckered again by promises fake…
We forget the past and its pain.

There is no true peace, to be won in war,
That is the secret perhaps,
All your work,
Will fade in murk
Your efforts render you a mindless jerk,
What you seek you will only achieve,
When you stop and leave the scraps.

Quitters don’t win, and winners don’t quit,
An empty slogan for youth,
Holds no sway,
As the world turns gray,
Over men who’ve fought but have stopped to pray,
And found their darling who played hard to get,
But arrived as they found the truth

The only peace that you’ll ever get,
Will not be a product of toil,
Your futile jobs,
With mindless mobs,
Will only earn a few spare bobs
While peace waits till you cease to struggle,
As around you the people roil.
