Broken Dreams...

Shattered prayers and broken dreams,
Scattered amidst the waves,
Unfulfilled unrealized,
Once cherished now despised,
Old longings lie disguised,
While hope fails it’s slaves.

Unheard wishes, unknown goals,
That none will ever know
Dead, buried and forgotten
Shunned like a child misbegotten,
Tossed away with things rotten,
As the boy begins to grow.

Then valued as the holy chalice,
Now lost in dark caves,
Unremembered, neglected,
Words we once spoke and said
Promises, for which we bled
Now whisper from their graves.

What then made us smile at every step
Now, only tires the heart,
Unresolved issues, lie in wait
In the face of love we slam the gate.
And all the while, we carry a weight,
And memories that never part.

But each new pain that is added on,
Feels worse than before
New sorrow and new regret,
Trying to hide, the tears with sweat
Ever struggling to try and forget,
As we lie upon the floor.

Overwhelmed with lamentations
Helpless with grief,
We lie helpless and paralyzed,
By our own conscience stand chastised
In the fire of pain get baptized,
And still find no relief.

Old memories and lasting aches
New ones and their sting
Filled to the brim with trapped misery,
Fighting pain, hurt and worry
Hating the blood in each artery
While songbirds start to sing.
