His Mom is No More...

His mom is no more.
And I sit miles away, staring at nothing, wondering what I can possibly do.

He seemed strong on the surface,
Coming to terms with the inevitability of life and moving on
Pulling through the tragedies…
Learning from those terrible instances that bring us back to our own fragile mortality,
The moments that recur for as long as we live…
Until it’s time for us to join that long line of fallen friends.

I do not know if there is a life after death,
But I hope there is.
I would like to believe that there is one second chance,
One last encounter to resolve all those avoided issues…
One last meeting to talk about all those unspoken feelings...
To say a proper farewell…
For one last hug,
When we know that this is the end.

It almost makes me long for blessed oblivion,
The thought of my waiting friends who have preceded me into the void.
It makes death seem like the last reunion,
An occasion to long for… not fear.
A transition from one place to another,
Where some have already gone…
And everyone else will inevitably follow.

Perhaps his mom too, felt this way.
Perhaps the thought that this parting from her beloved son was only temporary soothed her mind.
But it doesn’t matter.
All the words in the world by all its poets could not come close to healing the wound left in the life of a son who has lost his mother.

It doesn’t matter if he was mentally prepared for a catastrophe of this scale.
It doesn’t matter if he tells us he is fine.
One doesn’t even need to know him to see the truth behind the lies.
To see the hurt and agony left behind by his mom’s unsaid goodbye.

There is nothing anyone can do or say that’ll make things better.
There are no miracles in real life.
Even after the doors have closed our hearts harbor a faint longing for a possible escape.
We want to be told that we’ve been had.
We wish that it has all been a joke.
But there is no way around the cold hard fact… that it’s over.
There is nothing to be done about that one statement,
Set in stone and final as the knell of judgment day.

His mom is no more.
