Review: Temple of Thought

The fifth album by the ‘Poets of the Fall’ seems to be everything as grand as their earlier production. The poets seem to one of the only modern day bands to create consistently classy labels one after the other. If anything they might have just outdone themselves this time in terms of the vocals and the lead guitar.

The album starts with the track, ‘Running out of Time’… an energetic composition which sets the mood for the rest of the disc. The title track, ‘Temple of Thought’ follows it, with signs that the range of the vocals may have improved from their previous album, ‘Twilight Theatre’.

There are also indications of progress in terms of the lead guitar, in a few improved and extended solos. It seems that after every new release, when fans think that POTF can get no better, they are determined to set a new standard for themselves.

If there is any drawback to the tracks on ‘Temple of Thought’, it’s perhaps the fact that occasionally the vocals tend to sound a little monotonous. But even this lasts for only a second before everything picks up again to produce some of the best Alternative Rock music of the generation.

‘Temple of Thought’, in addition to being a very good shopping choice might even sell a few extra records in India due to the band’s tour in many of the country’s major cities.

The band even performed here, at the Nazrul Manch on the 28^th of August, to a full house and helped their already great popularity by no less extent. While most of the tracks they performed were excerpts from their new album… they also obliged the crowd with a few of their old hits.

After their performance on stage and on record… POTF’s new album is all set to blaze through the playlists of the country and only be replaced by their next production.
