Deathbed...

Keep your wishes,
And empty sighs,
What use are they
Your foolish lies

To a man who rests,
In his final days
Smiling at death
With solemn gaze

What would you say?
When he’s lying in wait
“It’ll be alright?”
He won’t take the bait

Would you really trick
Even the soon to be gone?
With all your false hopes
By leading them on?

Would you really try
To distract a man?
From his approaching death
By an elaborate plan?

Would you attempt
To make him laugh?
When his life is snatched
Like a blind man’s staff?

How would you address
His calm open face?
What words would soothe
His pulse’s pace?

There’s nothing you can do
Or possibly say
That matters to him,
Who will die today

So stand in silence
Beside his lonely bed
With unblinking eyes
Watch his tears being shed

Hold his hand
And hear him sigh
And on the deathbed
You bid him goodbye.

  2. idea comes out well but is less expressive than the earlier scripts. just an addition-people often say consoling words more to console themselves than to console the person on 'the lonely' bed. :) :)

  3. Hmm... guess I am unused to writing in this particular style. But I did want to leave it open to interpretation to an extent... so perhaps that's why it's less expressive.
