Mirth...

Even to a man, who is addicted to gloom
For a dose of mirth, there is always room.

From the deepest pits of dire depression,
It brings us up… out of the oppression.

No matter how much, you think you ache
You are left giddy, in laughter’s wake.

Oh, the joy it brings, in a single flash,
Nulls your pain… while colors splash.

Your world of shadows, black and white,
Loses its horror, and is erased outright.

Painted over, in the shades of glee,
And it feels so great, to be finally free.

You see things anew, and your heart swells
At the thought of a frown, your spirit rebels

Even stars don’t suffice, when you compare,
Their vast legions, to your sudden flare

Even they fall short, when trying to count
What exactly is, your joy’s amount

You skip through worries, on wings of fire
Nothing can slow you, or make you tire

Scorn all you want, but you cannot subdue
The rush of laughter, as it flows through you

No matter how strong your despair may be,
It shall be drowned, in joy’s sweet sea.

Until of course it’s time, for the tide to ebb
And return you to feeling, like a fly in a web.

Your momentary reprieve, a receding dream,
You fall back on misery, and silently scream

You don’t know how, the mood came and went
You wish its return… while you lie spent.

The sudden joy, and its temporary relief,
Just leaves you with a bemused disbelief.
