We celebrate one and dread the other,
With every breath we draw,
Ever since our birth, upon this earth
We fear deaths hungry maw.
Part of nature this has always been,
To cling to our flickering lives,
We cherish each birth, for what it’s worth,
Till to claim us death arrives.
Some scholar once had said of old,
That it’s not death that we so feared,
But fear of the unknown, chilled our bone
As our life, to its end was steered.
If that is the case, then strange it feels
How birth and death seem so near…
We hardly know, how our lives will go,
When first in the world we appear.
Ignorant we are from that very moment,
How our actions shall lead us on.
To speak or do, and where it takes us to
As along life’s road we’re drawn.
Does death itself seem different now?
Another launch into a new unknown…
All set to leave, and make some grieve
Going as we had come… alone.
In a few small ways, one might even think
That death is the less to be feared,
At least those old fears, about the living years,
Have probably long been cleared
We already know how we have lived our lives,
That’s one major worry overcome,
And as for the death, that stops our breath
It’s like returning to where we’re from.
The only thing different and indeed worse
In this second transition though,
Is saying farewell, upon hearing your knell
To all the people you know
Hence by comparison it is safe to say,
That our lives seem sweet as lime,
Between death and birth, we deserve some mirth
Till for our last venture it’s time.
Poems again... for when i am too lazy to write prose :P
